NATIONAL LAMPOON database (1) (April 1970 - December 1973)

This is not a complete, exhaustive and comprehensive list of all the contents and all the writers and artists in all the issues of the National Lampoon magazine. First of all, because I don't own any of the real issues -- my sources are the (sometimes incomplete) PDFs available online, courtesy of luckyfrogfarms.com. Secondly, I'm sure that there are several fake advertising pages that I've mistaken for real ones and thus I didn't include them in the list. And what's worst, the scans available online are somewhat faulty and several of the artists' credits -- which were sometimes printed in the fringes of the page -- were left out of the scanned page.

For the correct identification of some of the artists and writers, I've consulted both the essential Grand Comics Database (God bless you, guys) and "Mark's very large National Lampoon site".

The list of artists who published either comics or illustrations in the pages of National Lampoon is impressive:

Neal Adams, Vaughn Bodé, Howard Chaykin, Daniel Clowes, Frank Frazetta, Rick Geary, Russ Heath, Jeff Jones, Adam Kubert, Alan Kupperberg, Bob Larkin, Bruce McCall, Gray Morrow, Howard Nostrand, Joe Orlando, Harvey Pekar, Ralph Reese, Trina Robbins, P. Craig Russell, Bill Sienkiewicz, Walter Simonson, Barry Smith, Frank Springer, Frank Thorne, Herb Trimpe, Boris Vallejo, Mary Wilshire, Gahan Wilson, Bernie Wrightson, and many, many others.

In regards to the way I list the authors of the comic strips and the photo-comics, or photo-novels, I follow the "Writer" + "Artist" order.
