Steve Fisher first wrote this as a movie treatment, and then developed it as a novel. At the same time, Delmer Daves took the treatment and wrote his own screenplay, which was later rewritten by Albert Maltz and turned into the film Destination Tokyo, directed by Daves himself and released on December 15th, 1943.   

The serial was collected in book form by Appleton in 1943.
